DEP Logging?

Just wondering ...

Does the Data Entry Program have the ability to log the users keystrokes and/or responses?

Now that I have the users testing out my survey, I have not been able to re-create all the issues that they've reported. I'm thinking some of these are not issues at all, just human error, but without a log or actually watching over their shoulder as they administer the survey, I don't want to assume.

Is there a way to log responses in the DEP?

Use Audit trails

Hi Bill

Yes. You can track the interactions with the instrument using the Audit Trails facility. To find out more about this look up "Audit trails" in the Blaise online assistant then select "Audit trails (Monitoring)" from the pop-up list. You can read all about it there.

Audit trails are collected using Audit.DLL which is supplied with the Blaise software - under Samples\DEP\Audit. You probably need to move this file into a location that can be accessed by your instrument.

You can turn audit trails on via a setting in the Mode library or by using a setting in the DEP configuration. Detailed settings for the Audit trail collection can be made in an audit trail initialization file *.AIF.

You need to do some research on the possibilities. I will send you a document which describes my preferred settings.

Once you start collecting audit trail information you will then need to create some programs to analyse them. That is another story. The first thing is to start collecting.

Audit trails are a mine of useful information. Have fun.
